I’m on a roll – versatile blogger award

by Julie Frayn on March 21, 2012 in  Bric-a-brac

Another award?  I don’t know what to say.  Except thank you!  Thanks to Jase Rosenburg who blogs as Resurrected Writer.  I connected with Jase via twitter (where else?), and have been following along with him since.

Like the Liebster award, the Versatile Blogger award also pays-it-forward, and also comes with some rules:

  1. Thank the award giver and link back to them in your post.
  2. Share 7 things about yourself.
  3. Pass this award along to 15 other bloggers.
  4. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

This time the snag was rule #3.  Like Jase, I don’t follow 15 blogs yet (I’m a relative newbie as most of you know).  So I will nominate some of the blogs I do follow because they are, each and every one of them, awesome in their own way. But first, seven things about me?  Ugh.

The first four relate to where I live, where I grew up, and breaking down some stereotypes about “us.”  I am an Albertan, home of Alberta beef, some of the most famous beef in the world because, apparently, it is very good – as beef goes.  Specifically I call the wonderful city of Calgary home – birthplace of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede.  Yup, horses, cowpokes, wranglin’ and such.  So, about me?

  1. We’re not all cowboys.  I’m no cowboy.  Or girl.  Or whatever.  I don’t own and refuse to wear cowboy/girl/poke duds.  Except jeans.  I could live in jeans.
  2. My neck is the same color as the rest of me. I’ll take the red in my life in a jacket, or a throw pillow, or my kitchen appliances.  Not on my neck.
  3. I am a rocker to the core. I don’t twang unless I absolutely have to.  And I don’t have to.
  4. I am no vegetarian, but I can’t eat slabs of undercooked cow.  Or overcooked.  Or not cooked.  Any slabs of cow – no thanks.  Like chewing a blood-soaked sponge.  Blech.  Grind it up into a burger, then maybe – but I’d prefer a bacon veggie burger any day.
  5. The best way to get me NOT to do something is to demand I do it.  I know, sounds a bit like a teenager with an attitude problem.  Maybe I have that attitude as an adult because I was so perfect in my teens.  Stop laughing…
  6. I adore my children.  They are the best thing in my life.  No joke.
  7. The egg I came from split in two, but the other half didn’t make it.  I have a freckled scar on my nose as a result of that fun fact.  I take sick pleasure in watching people’s faces when they ask what happened to it.  “That’s where they dug the baby teeth and baby hair of my undeveloped twin from my face when I was just 17 months old.”  What?  Gross!  Truth.

Here are my picks to pass this award along to.  I realize some of these were listed for the Liebster, and also realize that some have already received this award.  I wonder if the rules have to be followed each time it is awarded?  If so, I apologize in advance.

Jurascals – Not only is J. Timothy Quirk a comic artiste, he is a poet.  He put together a compilation of other poets’ work for Awesome Day.  You can find The Collected Works of Awesome on Scribd.

Sheila Pierson – From junk purging to writing and poetry to introspective posts, Sheila is kind and awesome and always interesting to read.

Cinta Garcia – Cinta’s Corner is one part food blog, one part Jane Austen veneration, and lots of parts Little Nani Adventures.  Very cool lady.

Heather Eigler – Talk about versatile – this lady reviews wine (see why I like her?), regales us with kitchen adventures, and has an awesome sense of humour about motherhood.  Oh, and did I mention?  There’s bacon.

Sean P. Farley – See Liebster award post.  Laugh and cry.  Quotable nuggets.  Great guy.  Go see!

Jase Rosenburg – the gentleman who nominated me for this award.  He is brave, and is sharing a personal and tough challenge with all of us.  He could use lots of support.

Katie Schwartz – Katie is a new tweep.  Her blog is different, interesting, unusual.  So, you know, awesome!

Clay Held – Clay doesn’t post often, but his poetry is cool and worth the wait.  He had me at “Ode to a Philly Cheesesteak.”

Well, that’s all folks.  Tune in next week for our regularly scheduled program.  Perhaps a little dirty, sexy, grammar is in order…

Holy shnizzle sticks! I’m honored and humbled. And my golly, it’s going to take me forever to send the love back to 15 other blogs! I have so much to do as it is. BUT, I promise, I will get to it (my Mac has a “stickies” feature, where I can leave notes for myself on my desktop to remind me, it’s very cool). Thanks again, Julie, MUCH appreciated! :)

I’ve never seen a holy shnizzle stick before. A few unholy ones . . . 😀 My PC has sticky notes on the monitor too. But I have to actually peel them off. Have a great day, Sean!

To number 3 – Not even Buckshot & Benny’s “Sixteen Chickens and a Tambourine”?? That is a classic! LOL

Nope, sorry (though I’ve never heard it, I can only imagine)! Not even Stompin’ Tom or any iconic Canadian country crooners. My patriotism halts at twang.

Did you never watch the Buckshot show when you were a kid? I’m talking Benny the Bear and Buckshot! I posted a link on my page last week to pay homage to the Buchshot show debut 45 years ago.

Congrats to you, Julie! And also to Mr. Jurascals. Both well-deserved!
