September 1, 2015 was a good day. I awoke and turned on my computer. Had to check the Kindle Book Awards to see if I made it into the top 5 finalists in my category. I didn’t even have to look it up because an author peep had posted the link with congrats for making it! Top 5 in Suspense/Horror for Mazie Baby! Now THAT is a great way to wake up.
But wait – there’s more!
Another author friend posted a congrats for Mazie Baby winning a bronze medal from Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards! You know what other famous Canadian won a Readers’ Favorite award? Jim Carrey. Yup. I am in the same company as the Mask himself… (I’d have said Ace Ventura, but ew).
Fun story… I had written off any hope of a Readers’ Favorite award for Mazie. First they do a review. As the personal email from the contest said, the review and judging processes are completely separate. I quote…
Often these opinions can vary greatly, as they did in the case of your book, “Mazie Baby.” Your reviewer gave you 3 stars but your judge gave you an award!
Hooray for the judge! So they are putting Mazie back in for a NEW review. After that, her picture will show up on their site instead of just the title.
I love the smell of an award in the morning….
P.S. – it took ALL I had not to spell it Readers’ FavoUrite… See? I can be flexible!

Many congratulations, Julie – well deserved award.
Thanks so much, Mary!
Way yo go, Julie.
Thanks, Yvonne!
You deserve every bit of recognition. Way to go and keep the stories coming. Like I always say in the case of the low score given ” I wonder if they read the same book I did. ” Congratulations Julie!
Thank you for your support, Gina! The first reviewer thought Mazie enjoyed what she did mid-book. They didn’t read the book the way I wrote it.
Excellent! Also great to read a post about your writing and recognition for your writing. Makes up for ‘other’ stuff, doesn’t it?
