Thanks to Sean P. Farley (I wonder, what does the P stand for?) for honoring me with a Liebster Award. Sean and I met through a mutual Facebook friend (shout out to Cindy, queen of ’80s big hair and awesome rock ‘n roll). Sean and I follow each other’s blogs and tweets and share a secret, inappropriate crush. Shhhh…
The Liebster award is a pay-it-forward award for blogs with fewer than 200 followers. The idea is that each award recipient (me, yay!) keeps the good karma flowing by bestowing the award on up to five other blogs they love. Blogs that maybe others don’t know about yet. There are “rules” to follow in order to claim acceptance (I like rules, makes things simple and unambiguous):
- Thank the person that nominated you on your blog and link back to them.
- Nominate up to 5 other blogs for the award.
- Let them know via comment on their blog
- Post the award on your blog
The only snag I hit with the second rule is figuring how many followers a blog has. My own doesn’t list that, nor do many others. I discovered that most of the blogs I follow are over the 200 mark. What to do? I decided to simply nominate my favorites, regardless of how many followers. Uh oh, I think I broke a rule. Sorry, Mom.
Being innately curious (if I were a cat I’d have been dead years ago) I had to know where this award had its roots. Who is this Liebster dude or dudette? A quick googling revealed that many before me have tried, and apparently also failed, to reveal the answer to this mystery.
Ah well, on to my nominess. Or I guess they are awardees, since they win this award without competition. No envelope, please.
Jurascals J. Timothy Quirk has brought a rascally Jurassic dinosaur to life, but in a cute and adorable way, not in a Jurassic Park run for your life way. His Jurascals daily comic strips run in the Auburn Citizen newspaper in Auburn, New York. If you’re like me and don’t even know where that is, you have the online version to fall in love with.
David G. Hallman David is a fellow Canadian, and author of Searching for Gilead and August Farewell (which I am currently reading, and being moved by). In addition to writing and blogging, and the whole canucklehead thing, we share a love for 60’s rag top Mustangs. We also share the fact that we don’t actually own one, only dream of doing so one day. David’s a super nice guy and tweets, among other things, interesting “this day in history” facts.
Sheila Pierson I know she’s been given this award a couple of times already, but never from me. I love her blog, not just the posts and her writing style, but the artwork and ‘70s peace and love feel. I just like being there, it makes me feel like I’m home. Okay I realize that sounds weird and a bit, I don’t know, stalkerish. But it’s not, honest.
J. Scott Sharp Sean calls him Jason (now I know what the J stands for…), but I call him Mr. Sharp, or sometimes just sir. I don’t know why, it just fits. You’ll never meet a nicer guy, or anyone more supportive of the efforts of others. He should win a lot of awards (this isn’t his first Liebster). Mr. Congeniality, perhaps.
Heather Eigler Heather and I met on twitter and discovered we are both Calgary blogging moms. Yay on all counts! She also loves Heritage Park, where I happen to hold down my day job. Great lady, great blog, great and hilarious “Mom vs. Kids” section. Oh, and there’s bacon.
Thank you again, Sean. I am honored, humbled, and just pleased as freaking punch that you thought of me. You boulder! (His blog is boulderuphill – get it? wink wink). Speaking of which, check him out too. His blog has moved me to tears, and I love to repeat his very quotable nugget:
Writing is a wound that needs healing.
Hand me the Polysporin and my keyboard, please…

How awesome is this?!? It does feel good to get some recognition, doesn’t it? But, as you know, I give your blog kudos in general, regardless of the awards (though they are nice!). I, too, love Jason’s and Sheila’s blogs, too. The others I will have to check out! It’s also very moving to be quoted. It rocks (no pun intended). Oh, as for the P.? Well, Sean and Farley are VERY Irish names. In fact, we just celebrated the existence of such a P. this past Saturday, the 17th.
Patrick! Of course. Now that I read it, I think I knew that. Or assumed it…
Thanks again for the Liebster. Your support means a lot, Sean.
Well, congratulations are in order Miss Juliebird (aka Jules). So thanks also to Sean “Patrick” Farley for nominating you! I will now have to check out his blog and the others you mentioned. Oh oh! I might be in danger of becoming a rampant blog follower…………oh well, that’s a good thing! And this Liebster mystery person might just go down in the annals of all things unknown, like the secret of “how do they get the caramel in the Caramilk bar?”!!
Thanks, Michelle. Sean’s blog, and the others listed, and a whole bunch more I love but had to narrow it to five, are great and worth following. Not sure I want to know the answer to all mysteries, like just what IS in a hot dog? No, don’t tell me…
Looks like you’re on a roll! I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! You can find the details on my blog post!
Jase, thank you! So sweet. I’ll head over there now…
Congratulations on your Liebster Award, Julie! You do “boulder” as well! Here’s to many more!
Thanks, Mr. Monaghan! I shall call you that until I know what mj stands for…
